Why didn’t Disney submit Robert Downey Jr. for an Oscar nomination

It’s been months since Endgame released but the people have still not got over the fact of Iron Man’s exit from MCU.

Ever since DC released Joker everyone went crazy over the magnificent performance of Joaquin Phoenix. People have already assumed that the Oscar for Best Actor would go to Joaquin Phoenix for Joker.

But it doesn’t seem so easy as Robert Downey’s fans are not letting this opportunity float away from themselves and are hoping an Oscar for Robert.

Few days ago an online petition was circulated among the fans on social media urging everyone to join it which stated to award an Oscar to Robert Downey Jr for his role of Iron Man in Endgame.

Disney started their Oscar campaign for the movie, with the studio calling for it to get recognition in 12 categories but surprisingly, Best Actor wasn’t one of them.

Instead it was actually Downey Jr.’s own decision to call off the campaign to get him an Oscar nomination.

While on The Howard Stern Show, discussion went to Martin Scorsese’s questionable remarks about Marvel films and the general difference between supposed “genuine” film and blockbusters. As a major aspect of this, Stern inquired as to whether he’d at any point felt sad about not being designated for an Oscar for his job as Tony Stark in the course of recent years.

Robert Downey Jr sternly clarified that this isn’t something that gets him down and said that the reason Disney didn’t submit him for a nomination for Endgame is because he actually told them not to.

Though it’s not like he’s a stranger to the Academy Awards, either, as he’s previously received Oscar nominations for both 1993’s Chaplin and 2008’s Tropic Thunder.

It’s a strange fact that Robert Downey Jr. lost an Oscar nomination to Heath Ledger’s Dark Knight in 2009 and for this year 2019 he’s again up against Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.
