Despite the stunning announcement that Henry Cavill would not be returning as Geralt of Rivia for The Witcher season 4, it seems likely that Cavill’s future as Superman in the DCEU will be even brighter than previously expected. Netflix’s announcement that Liam Hemsworth will be taking over for Henry Cavill as Geralt in Season 4 of The Witcher came as a shock to many.
After five years after Justice League, Cavill reprised his role as Superman in Black Adam, suggesting that the sudden switch in The Witcher’s protagonist may have something to do with Superman and the DCEU. Season 3 of The Witcher has already been completed.

Until now, Henry Cavill’s Superman in the DCEU has never had to make peace with Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. In 2018, over a year after Justice League was released, Cavill was cast as Geralt.
This cast doubt on Cavill’s continued tenure as Superman in the DCEU.
In the five years since Justice League, Cavill has appeared in two seasons of The Witcher, but he has yet to return to the role of Superman.

Just a week after returning to the role of Superman in the post-credits sequence of Black Adam, we learn that Henry Cavill will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth in the role of Geralt in The Witcher.
The recasting of Geralt of Rivia signals that Henry Cavill’s calendar will be full of Superman responsibilities after he hinted (through Instagram) that the post-credits sequence in Black Adam is only the beginning of his comeback. The startling recasting of Geralt comes after Henry Cavill revealed in November 2021 (via THR) that he was on board with The Witcher’s 7-season plan.
Although few people had initially fan-cast the Superman actor as Geralt, his performance as the Witcher was hailed by gamers, bookworms, and non-fans alike. Cavill is a fan of the Witcher games and has expressed numerous times how much he liked portraying Geralt.
The Witcher, starring Henry Cavill as Geralt, spawned not one but two spinoffs on Netflix: an animated movie called Nightmare of the Wolf and a live-action miniseries called Blood Origin. Henry Cavill may have been given a bright future as Superman, prompting him to leave The Witcher after just three seasons.
