Star of the first John Wick film Laurence Fishburne has hinted at the high quality of the forthcoming John Wick: Chapter 4. Fishburne, who is slated to reprise his role as The Bowery King in the upcoming fourth installment, told Variety that he considers John Wick: Chapter 4 to be “the finest one,” praising the inclusion of multiple “fun” characters with some “amazing” action set pieces.

He said, “Number four is gonna be … honestly, when I read it I was like, this is the best one … it just was. From the way that it opens, 3 or 4 incredible set pieces are just like, Woah. There are new characters, one, in particular, that’s so much fun. Well, three are crazy fun, and yeah, you know, I got to be in it again. I come back from the dead.”

Stahelski has also shared details on how ninjas will be included in the expanding John Wick mythos in the upcoming fourth film. The addition of this feature should help the sequel excel above its forerunners, “I love mythology. I love a good myth,” the filmmaker said. “I don’t believe — at least for the ‘John Wick’ movies — in a three-act structure. I believe in storytelling and leaving it. You know, we’ve always seen John Wick as Odysseus. So we take the time we need to tell the story. As long as we don’t fall asleep watching it, we keep it going. But I guess there is a bathroom limit.” Chapter 4 of John Wick has been pushed back from its original 2021 release date to March 24, 2023.
