It Would be Fun to Have the Conversation: Henry Cavill is still interested in playing James Bond

Casting Henry Cavill as James Bond — It’s rare to find an actor that seems so naturally endowed with the traits of their character. Cavill has shown interest in discussing the possibility with Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, but so far nothing has come of it. He made this statement on the Happy Sad Confused podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz.

“Barbara and Mike, two wonderful human beings. I believe it was at Mike’s place, but I have really happy recollections of sharing drinks with them. Due to the theme of Casino Royale, Barbara and I shared a vesper martini. We had a blast. And it was exciting to be a part of all that action… It would be interesting to discuss the possibility of me playing the part, but even if I’m not chosen, I’d still be interested to watch what they accomplish with the project, because I believe they’re fantastic.”

At one point in his career, Henry Cavill was dubbed “the unluckiest man in Hollywood” after being passed up for not just the James Bond part but also Batman and Superman. Cavill has claimed that he was the studio’s second choice in 2006 for the James Bond revival Casino Royale, but he was eventually passed down because he was deemed too young for the role.

Well, in the end, Cavill was selected to play Clark Kent/Superman (a role that he has now returned to amid much applause). So, maybe the next step is to come out as James Bond at long last.

In other words, a younger actor will not be cast as the next James Bond.

Despite widespread speculation that a younger actor might be hired as the next James Bond, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson reportedly still have no plans to do so. In the past, we’ve even looked at younger folks.

Yet mental imagery fails to help. “Bond is an experienced operative,” Wilson reminded. “He’s got some life under his belt. He’s someone who’s “been there, done that.” He may have served in the Special Forces. He’s not a fresh-faced teen to be brought in as a rookie. So that’s why it appeals to thirtysomethings.”

As for Henry Cavill, he’ll soon show off his espionage skills in Argylle, which portrays him as a top-notch operative with amnesia.
