Chris Evans reminisces about being Captain America already

It’s understandable that after playing Captain America for over a decade, Chris Evans would start to miss the character. Even after he put up his shield in Avengers: Endgame, it’s evident that Evans still has at least a tiny part of him that would love to be the MCU’s Cap, as he discussed his experience in the role in an interview with People after being named Sexiest Man Alive 2022. When asked about his time spent with Marvel, he commented:

“They’re challenging, but the beauty is that the movies are great. You get out what you put in. It’s been a wonderful, very symbiotic relationship, so I’ve been thrilled to do it. I think when the movies end you’re very happy to have a break. But very quickly, you miss it. I miss it now. But yeah, I’m very grateful and very happy to have been a part of them.”

“They’re difficult, but the payoff is that the films are excellent. What you put in is what you receive. I’ve been extremely happy to participate in this arrangement since it benefits both parties. There’s a good chance you’ll be relieved when the credits roll at the conclusion of the movie. Nonetheless, it’s gone before you know it. Now that it’s gone, I can’t live without it. However, I am thankful and pleased to have participated in them.”

Now that Anthony Mackie has been officially announced as the next Captain America and will be taking up the role for the first time in Captain America: New World Order, it seems safe to assume that Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers will never return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, because we are now in the multiverse, nothing is impossible. Even if there weren’t any other universes where a different version of Steve Rogers was ready to make a comeback, there still could be a method for the previous Captain America to make a comeback.

Chris Evans’s return to the character of Steve Rogers would make the most sense via a multiversal twist, and many fans still hold out hope that he would make a cameo of some type in Avengers: Secret Wars. It would be great if the reality in which Steve Rogers originated could be visited one more time before the multiverse is sealed.

There are likely more stories that may be adapted into a limited series starring Steve and Peggy, and Marvel isn’t one to leave any tale untouched. Hayley Atwell, who played Peggy Carter in the MCU, returned to the franchise as Captain Carter in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, it is currently unknown what Kevin Feige has planned for either star in the future, and there are likely many fans who would be happy to see a reunion between Rogers and Carter.
