Aubrey Plaza shares her experience of working

Aubrey Plaza’s enthusiasm for working with Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather) is understandable. It was revealed in August that Plaza will be appearing in the director’s pet project, Megalopolis. Plaza became a member of an all-star cast that also included Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, and Laurence Fishburne. Since Plaza’s casting, a number of additional A-listers, including Dustin Hoffman, Shia LaBeouf, and Jason Schwartzman, have joined the cast.

Plaza, in an episode of In the Envelope: The Actor’s Podcast, gushed about the acclaimed filmmaker, saying:

“I’ve been visualizing the opportunity to collaborate with a wonderful filmmaker for a very long time. Who [could be] more clever than one of the greatest living filmmakers, Francis Ford Coppola? It’s challenging to get roles in films with filmmakers who have a lengthy body of work. I don’t feel any remorse for my actions. Because of how much I like it, I will never stop taking on roles with first-time filmmakers. For some time now, though, I’ve had the feeling that what I truly want is to collaborate with a seasoned filmmaker. Francis Ford Coppola is the one I would recommend; he has been in the business for quite some time.”

Megalopolis is being funded by Coppola, who sold a piece of his eponymous winery to fund the project. Coppola directed and wrote the script for the film, and he rose to fame after the release of The Godfather in 1972.

Plaza became a household name after playing the hilarious April Ludgate on NBC’s beloved workplace mockumentary Parks and Recreation. She has since appeared in a number of films, including The Little Hours, Ingrid Goes West, Black Bear, and most recently, Emily the Criminal, in which she played the title role. Plaza also stars in the second season of HBO’s hit series The White Lotus and voices Laura Feinberg on the adult animated series Little Demon.

During an interview with In the Envelope: The Actor’s Podcast earlier this month, Plaza confirmed that she will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the WandaVision spinoff Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Her character specifics are still undisclosed, although she is widely speculated to play a villain.

It should come as no surprise that Coppola inspires Plaza, who has shown interest in directing in the past and who has mentioned that she hopes to work with the director at some point in her career, since Plaza has expressed interest in directing in the past.

“I went into my audition for him very unconvinced that I would receive the role. To be honest, all I wanted to do was finally meet the gentleman in question. My needs might be met with as little as a 5-minute Zoom call. His zeal inspires me. We begin filming this week, so I have no idea what will happen, but the preparation and experience I’ve had thus far as a member of “Megalopolis” have been incredible and humbling. It’s a great reminder that movies have the power to enchant. A major motion picture is being made by someone who is not working inside the conventional Hollywood structure. It’s fantastic to be with someone who shares my love of cinema and my belief that the creative journey itself is as rewarding as the final product.”
