Have you ever had one of those days when you simply needed to cry? Everyone has been there. When you’re feeling low, nothing beats cuddling up on the sofa with a tear-jerking movie. In moments like these, look no further than the saddest Disney movies of all time for the solace you need.
If you believe that Sad movies on Disney+ aren’t depressing, then you clearly haven’t watched enough films. There are numerous depressing movies to pick from on Disney+ so you might question why it’s marketed as a community streaming service. But that is the magic of Disney’s story arcs pulling at your emotions in a way anything else can compare.
1. Inside Out
In this charming Disney film, every character has its own name and has the potential to make you feel everything: laughter, sadness, or even nostalgia. Allow her to remind you that it is vital to feel all of your emotions in order to live a full life, and that is exactly what the film tells its audience.
2. The Fault in our Stars
Another film based on a heartbreaking novel, which is meant to break apart people who believe in love. What could be more heartbreaking than the tale of two star-crossed youths who become lovers during a cancer support network? Honestly, nothing. It’s tragic, sad, and beautiful at the same time, just like life.
3. The Lion King
The live-action film brings everyone’s childhood alive again. Although this movie is known for its famous phrase, Hakuna Matata, it still remains one of the most saddest films on the streaming service. Everyone who grew up watching The Lion King knows *that* scene between Simba and Mufasa. It’s much worse in real life, believe it or not.
Without a question, Bambi is one of the saddest Disney films of all time. One of the most heartbreaking tales in the Disney universe and still brings people into tears with its opening scene. If you know, you know! How could one small fawn bear so much pain?
5. Christopher Robin
Any adult who grew up with Winnie the Pooh should watch this heartwarming live-action film that will make you feel like a kid again. Not will it make you laugh, but most likely tear up due to the contents that make you feel extremely nostalgic about the past. In the end, we never saw Christopher really grow up in the animated movie, did we?
6. Toy Story 3
I know having Toys roam around is absurd, but seeing life from their perspective makes the whole narrative extremely depressing. We all have grown out of playing with our toys, but have we ever thought about them? Well, this part will make you think about toys in a manner you never did before. You’re tougher than most if you don’t cry (or ten) at the end of the third Toy Story film. That one scene always gets to us!
Miguel’s journey to the Land of the Dead is a celebration of life, love, and family. It’s probably one of the most interesting, horrific, yet claiming movies on this list and its story is bound to make one feel sad. So, beware—the ending of Coco’s moment is a tearjerker.
